The configuration of Custom Events is pretty much identical to recommended events. The only difference is that you will need to come up with your own event names.
For example, if you want to track clicks on a call to action button, the name of the event can be any of these:
However, the event name can only have a maximum of 40 characters.
You can only track 500 unique events in one Google Analytics (Ver 4) property. If you reach the limit, you won’t be able to track any other new events. You cannot delete any unused event to create a new event so you need to be careful about creating too many unique event names.

How To ‘Mark As Conversion’ (in Google Analytics-Ver 4)
How To Create A New Event (in Google Analytics-Ver 4)
Here is another example to help you understand it better.
To finish creating a new event, click on the Save button in the top right corner.
Once you have created a new event in Google Analytics (Ver 4) and you want that to become a conversion, you have to mark that event as a conversion in the All Events report. You can do that by turning the toggle on as explained in the first step.
